Swiss casinos establish binding player protection code

Players Code Switzerland

Players Code SwitzerlandTo further strengthen player protection in Switzerland, all Swiss casino operators have introduced a mandatory code of conduct. This code contains a series of nine measures that apply to both online and land-based gambling operations and are aimed at effectively protecting players.

The code, which was officially presented on Thursday, is a joint project of all licensed Swiss casinos, which have committed to complying with these binding rules.

The motivation behind this code is the casinos' responsibility to their players, especially those who exceed their limits while gambling and harm themselves or the environment. Operators want to ensure that gambling is not only entertaining, but also conducted safely and responsibly.

The Code is a response to growing concerns about problem gambling. Especially in the online world, where players can operate anonymously, it is important to take early measures to prevent gambling addiction.

"We are fully aware of the privilege and responsibility we bear. We fully support the law and the legislator's intention," the representatives of the Swiss casinos emphasized in a joint statement.

The nine measures of the Player Protection Code

  1. Continuous training of employees: Staff are regularly trained to identify problematic behavior among players and act accordingly.
  2. Early detection of excessive gambling: Casinos rely on techniques to identify problematic gambling habits at an early stage.
  3. Timely contact with those affected: People who are at risk of losing control of their gaming habits will be contacted quickly.
  4. Exclusion of people with problematic gaming behavior: Players who exceed their financial limits or show signs of gambling addiction will be excluded from gaming operations.
  5. Protection of minors through a minimum age of 18 years: Access to the casino is only permitted to adults in order to protect minors.
  6. Responsible, non-misleading advertising: The casinos advertise honestly and transparently without promising unrealistic winnings.
  7. Revision of measures and cooperation with specialist departments: The Code is regularly reviewed and improved in cooperation with specialist bodies.
  8. Transparent presentation of gambling risks: Players are clearly informed about the risks of gambling.
  9. Casinos' obligation to comply with the Code: All licensed casinos must strictly adhere to the code.

The code is an important step toward raising player protection in Switzerland to a new level. Casinos are thus relying not only on technological innovations but also on clear, reliable measures designed to ensure long-term player protection. However, the government also has a role to play. Operators continue to push for the consistent blocking of illegal gambling websites to protect the legal market and further strengthen player protection.

Overall, the Player Protection Code lays the foundation for a responsible future of gambling in Switzerland. Casinos have recognized their responsibility to their players and are actively committed to preventing problem gambling and ensuring the safety of their customers.
