Record year for the Luxembourg lottery in 2024

The Luxembourg lottery achieved a record result in 2024, significantly surpassing the previous record from the previous year. According to the recently published figures, the gross revenue of the Loterie Nationale de Luxembourg amounted to 90,9 million euros. This represents an increase of 18,2% compared to 2023.
Not only the lottery operator benefited from this positive development, but also the players in the country. In 2023, winnings of more than 178 million euros were paid out. This also marks a record high and underlines the growing popularity of the products offered.
Léon Losch, director of the national lottery, was extremely satisfied with the growth and pointed to the continuous improvement of the range of games on offer. According to Losch, the increase achieved was not a coincidence, but the result of a targeted strategy.
The aim is to continually expand the range of products and services and to adapt them to the wishes of the players in order to ensure an optimal experience. At the same time, he stressed the importance of responsible gaming. The operator attaches great importance to ensuring that all income is generated through safe and responsible gambling.
Sports betting as a growth driver
A key factor for the strong growth in 2024 was not the traditional lottery business, but the sports betting sector. In particular, the introduction of a new website and additional video lottery terminals contributed significantly to the success. This enabled gross revenues in the sports betting segment to increase to EUR 36,6 million, which corresponds to an impressive increase of 51,5%.
As in many other countries, the surplus profits do not go to private investors, but rather benefit the common good. In Luxembourg, the entire surplus is donated to the Grand Duchess Charlotte Relief Organization. In this way, numerous social and charitable projects benefit from the players' stakes.
A positive development was also observed in the traditional lottery business in 2024, albeit to a lesser extent. The classic lottery offerings increased by 2,85% and generated gross gaming revenues of EUR 41,6 million. The newly introduced Eurodreams lottery played a significant role in this, additionally ensuring sales growth. Scratch cards also proved to be a stable source of income with total sales of EUR 12,7 million.
The figures show that the Luxembourg lottery has experienced strong growth through both innovative innovations and traditional gaming offerings. The combination of an expanded product range, a modern digital infrastructure and a clear focus on responsible gaming has contributed significantly to making 2024 the most successful year in the history of the Loterie Nationale de Luxembourg.
